What is a Dokoh, Kerongsang, or Cucuk Sanggul?
A dokoh is a Malay traditional pendant necklace usually worn in a set of two or three pendants. The necklace is 72 to 76cm (28" to 30") in length and with the top piece sits at the breastbone section. Muzium Negara has some of the oldest dokohs, dating over two hundred years. A kerongsang (also kerosang), is a costume jewelry that functions like a brooch. It is traditionally worn with baju kebaya usually in a set of three pieces, either chained together or by itself. Kerongsangs have been worn for centuries by the Malay, the nyonya, and the Portuguese in Melaka. We offer one of the largest collections of kerongsang with new designs added regularly.
A cucuk sanggul is a traditional hair pin that was once common among the Malay women and nyonya to secure their carefully rolled or plaited hair. Nowadays, cucuk sanngul is an important hair ornament for the bride in Malay weddings. The cucuk sangguls in our e-shop make beautiful wall decoration when framed.
